Accessibility Statement

I build websites for a profession whose clients are often tired, anxious or in pain. Accessibility is not a compliance exercise here; it is part of whether the work is any good.

What I aim for

This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is the standard I also build client websites to. This statement describes the aim honestly, including where it is not yet met, rather than claiming a certification I do not hold.

What that means in practice

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, in a sensible order, with a visible focus outline.
  • A “skip to main content” link is the first thing a keyboard or screen reader user reaches.
  • Headings run in a logical order and are used for structure, not for visual size.
  • Text and interface colours are checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios.
  • Text reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide and at 200% browser zoom.
  • Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Form fields have real labels, and errors are described in text and announced, not signalled by colour alone.
  • Movement is limited, and animation is reduced or removed when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Nothing important depends on hover, on colour alone, or on a mouse.

Known limitations

  • Some older Journal and Practice Clarity articles contain long, editorially formatted passages that have not yet been re-checked against the current standard.
  • Where the site links to Stripe's payment pages, or to external websites such as Counselling Directory or YouTube, those pages are outside my control and are governed by their own accessibility statements.
  • PDF or document downloads, where offered, may not be fully tagged for screen readers. If you need an accessible version of anything published here, ask and I will provide one.

How this was checked

Pages are checked during development by keyboard alone, at 320, 375, 768, 1024, 1280 and 1440 pixels wide, at 200% browser zoom, with reduced motion enabled, and against WCAG AA contrast ratios. Automated checks supplement that, but they do not replace it. No formal third-party audit has been carried out, and this statement does not claim one.
